FAQ | Is there really a such thing as an apples-to-apples insurance quote?

Hi, I’m Tom Gaumond with G2 Insurance Services. Welcome to our FAQ series, where we answer some of the most common questions people have about working with an independent insurance agency.

One of the most common requests we hear is: “Is there really a such thing as an apples-to-apples insurance quote?”

The short answer is: not really.

While it’s possible to compare insurance policies side by side, there is rarely a true apples-to-apples comparison between different insurance companies. Every carrier has its own pricing models, underwriting guidelines, coverage options, and eligibility requirements.

For example, when quoting a homeowners insurance policy, insurance companies look at factors such as the age of the home, square footage, construction type, location, and replacement cost. However, they may also evaluate things differently based on whether you have a swimming pool, certain dog breeds, an older roof, or other unique property characteristics.

The same applies to liability exposures. Items such as boats, snowmobiles, ATVs, rental properties, and other recreational equipment can impact how a company prices and structures coverage. Some insurers may welcome those risks, while others may limit coverage or charge significantly different premiums.

Because every insurance company approaches risk differently, comparing policies involves much more than matching deductibles and coverage limits. It’s important to understand what is covered, what may be excluded, and how a policy is designed to protect your specific situation.

That’s where an independent insurance agent can help. At G2 Insurance Services, we look beyond the price and help you understand the differences between policies so you can make an informed decision. Our goal is to find coverage that fits your needs and helps avoid unexpected surprises down the road.

The best insurance policy isn’t always the one with the lowest premium—it’s the one that provides the right protection for you, your family, and your assets.
