FAQ | What is an independent insurance agency?

Hi, I’m Tom Gaumond with G2 Insurance Services. Welcome to our FAQ series, where we answer some of the most common questions about working with an independent insurance agency.

One of the questions we hear most often is: What is an independent insurance agency?

Simply put, an independent insurance agency works with multiple insurance companies to help clients find the coverage that best fits their needs. Rather than representing just one insurance carrier, independent agents have access to a wide range of insurance products and options.

To understand the difference, it helps to look at the other types of insurance providers. Direct insurance companies, such as GEICO or Progressive, sell their own policies directly to consumers through their websites or call centers. Captive agents, like those representing State Farm or American Family, work exclusively with a single insurance company and can only offer that company’s products.

Independent agencies are different. Because we partner with many insurance carriers, we can compare options across the marketplace and help find the right coverage for a variety of situations. Whether it’s personal insurance, business insurance, a unique property, specialty vehicles, or a more complex insurance need, we have the flexibility to explore multiple solutions.

At G2 Insurance Services, we have access to dozens of insurance companies, allowing us to provide more choices, greater flexibility, and customized coverage options tailored to each client’s unique circumstances. Our goal is to help you find the right protection at the best value, no matter how straightforward or complex your insurance needs may be.
