Hi, I’m Tom Gaumond with G2 Insurance Services. Welcome to our FAQ series, where we answer some of the most common questions people have about working with an independent insurance agency.
One question we hear frequently is: How often should you shop your insurance?
The answer isn’t always straightforward.
Our goal is to place clients with insurance companies that offer long-term stability, competitive pricing, and excellent service. Ideally, you build a lasting relationship with a company that treats you well, handles claims fairly, and maintains reasonable rates over time. In those situations, there may be little reason to shop your insurance every year.
However, circumstances can change. Insurance companies sometimes adjust their underwriting guidelines, change their appetite for certain risks, or implement significant rate increases. On the consumer side, life changes such as moving to a new home, purchasing a new property, adding drivers, starting a business, or experiencing multiple claims can all affect your insurance needs and pricing.
This is one of the key advantages of working with an independent insurance agency. If your situation changes—or if your insurance company changes its approach—we can review your options and help determine whether another carrier may be a better fit.
In some cases, a company may choose not to renew a policy, merge with another carrier, or leave a particular market altogether. When that happens, we work on your behalf to find replacement coverage and help ensure a smooth transition.
